Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player secured his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a torrid period, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in specific - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Presently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents his maiden championship since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt after March of the previous year.

The win also means Medvedev has won 21 victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and recurring emotional displays on court had prompted some to question if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.

However the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and play aggressively, supported by an better serve.

He recovered from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players traded service breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his first professional championship, seized the initiative to create a third set.

He defended four initial chances in a tight deciding set before the champion secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, he earned the title with a rally at the net, with Moutet failing to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
